This series consists of correspondence, memorandums, reports, airgrams, telegrams, notes, chits, lists, clippings, magazines, press reviews, summaries, press releases, translations, and brochures relating to African media reactions and coverage of worldwide events, policies, and programs. The records were maintained by the Africa Division; and its predecessors, the Africa Branch, the Foreign Propaganda Intelligence Division, and the Intelligence Production Division. Some of the documents are in Amharic and French. Subjects covered include politics, elections, visits of state, foreign leaders, economics, coups, revolutions, African students, disarmament, the French testing nuclear weapons in the Sahara Desert, banning of nuclear tests, communism, soviet relations with other countries, racial relations, civil rights, foreign aid, the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, the Cuban missile crisis, the Apartheid, and Rhodesia's unilateral declaration of independence. Other topics represented include international conferences, policies, programs, relations, and trade; the US and USSR space programs; and the reactions to speeches, statements, and actions of leaders. Some of the organizations covered include the United Nations (UN), the European Economic Community (EEC), the Afro-Asian People's Solidarity, the Ku Klux Klan (KKK), and African political parties. Some of the people covered include Nikita Khrushchev, Abdalalh Ibrahim, Chou En-lai, President John Fitzgerald Kennedy, President Lyndon Baines Johnson, Senator Robert Kennedy, Senator Allen J. Ellender, Fidel Castro, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr., Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe, and Moise Tshombe. Some of the geographic areas covered include the Algeria, Berlin, the Congo, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, France, Ghana, Kenya, Laos, Malaysia, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, Rhodesia, South Africa, and Vietnam.
